N & J Williams Racing @NandJ_WilliamsR

If people outside of racing were as obsessed with the whip as those inside then we might have a problem! Mark Johnston is completely right, take the whip away and it will be jumping next.

David Smith @david_smithA5

The only people talking about the whip are racing people, I don’t here [sic] anyone in everyday life bringing up the whip debate.

We are in danger of ruining the sport and looking for reasons to do it. More severe bans for jockeys is more preferable to banning the whip.

Ben Haslam @BenHaslamRacing

Personally I couldn’t agree more with @Johnston_Racing this has nothing to to [sic] do with being short sighted or ‘going with the times’. It’s plain common sense. The industry should stand firm in what it thinks is correct, not what people who don’t understand it think should happen!

Jessica Tugwell @starryday93

The uproar about whip use seems way overblown to me. Almost all equestrian sports permit the use of a crop, and used properly it’s a cue for the horse to pay attention and keep its mind on business, not necessarily a tool to intimidate a horse into going faster.

Back a winner and you soon forget about whip rules. To keep racing going you get people involved in the most base [sic] way possible, financially. That means genuinely encouraging people to bet and then not knocking them back if they happen to beat SP by two points one day.
