THERE was positive feedback from all those who took this week’s Racehorse Trainer’s Guide to Practical Marketing & Social Media held at RACE.

But for those who didn’t avail of it, it is surely a missed opportunity.

Many Irish trainers have still to recognise that they have free access to a medium that admits a massive audience to advertise their business. Because that it what it is, a business, there is a need to attract potential customers – owners.

Racing needs to present itself as attractive to owners and those potential owners can be engaged in the simplest way. Simple videos can go viral. Even lower class horses can gain a following, and it all adds up.

ATTENTION

In the UK, trainers like Kim Bailey, Fergal O’Brien and John Berry have surely gained more attention to their yards and horses with little expense. These days anyone can upload a video, maintain an online photo dairy, show-off the yard and the personalities in it, both human and equine.

Racehorse ownership is a hobby, but it’s a huge amount of fun and every opportunity to show that element must be availed of.
