Another immaculate display at Cheltenham by Frodon. What a wonderful horse and beautifully ridden again by Bryony. Lovely to watch.

The ride and horse of the day has to be Bryony Frost on Frodon, gave lumps of weight away and jumped for fun out of wet ground. Bryony has superb hands and rarely moves on a horse at the obs but when she sees a long stride she really commits and Frodon responds, a joy to watch.

There aren’t many positives for racing at the moment. Attendances dwindling at all but the big meetings due to the explosion of fixtures. Couple this with the effects of Covid and a price has to be paid. This is just another inevitable step. Expect track closures next. Maybe 10+

You know the industry is in complete tatters when you’re told by several people that the reason our yearling wasn’t sold is because we are breeding racehorses and not fashionable 2yo types that aren’t bred to win a race never mind be blacktype.

It is in explicable & unjustifiable that, while museums are allowed to welcome visitors at seemingly 100% of normal capacity (in areas which aren’t in the higher Tiers), sports (and I’m not just taking about racing; all sports) are allowed 0% of their usual quota of spectators.

Completely agree - for me there is too much racing under both codes, and this ends up reducing the diversity and quality of the end product. In the pre 90s both NH and the flat were sublime.

That it (as an industry) is largely driven by betting and constant round the clock tipping and form analysis is enough to turn people off. Over production and sniping at horses because they don’t run as expected etc, takes away from it.

Missing racing fixtures you’ve been attending for the last 20 years or so is becoming more mentally challenging as the months go on. The only consolation is that we’re all in the same boat.

Given what’s happened with Sir Dragonet. English King will probably do the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup treble. Heck, let’s even throw the Everest in there too...
