Gutted for Adrian Heskin today breaking his leg. Only pain he was in was the rides he was missing. Jockey’s life is a hard one, can be as f@*ked up as Brexit.

Loved that performance from Altior. Had to show some proper grit and resolve there in extreme conditions. Horse has the absolute lot.

Engine. Gears. Resilience. Heart. Class. Everything #Altior

The last 4 winners of the John Durkan have either won or placed in the Gold Cup. Min should have a go.

It is important in this country that we don’t simply defend against nonsensical viewpoints on the use of the whip but look to proactively educate racing supporters to better understand this issue.

FergalO’Brien Racing@FOBRacing

Do we worry about the whip being used on our horses? No

We worry about ground conditions which don’t tally with those advertised. With certain fences. And with certain races which have high faller rates. They are real welfare issues.

Denis Coakley@deniscoakley11

The fact horses are not traumatised by the whip can be seen by fact they are back in a relaxed state as soon as the race ends. If it brutalised them they would be trying to get away from it and that would show in their behaviour.

Fin Powrie@FinPowrie

Sir Peter campaigned against the “misuse” of the whip - not to ban it! Further, Racing has done so much to eradicate any “misuse”, the controls are rigorous - Sir Peter was and would be proud in where we stand on the matter. The industry is transparently governed - just look.

With the wonderful team @RossdalesVets Grumeti has had a much more positive afternoon. Not out of the woods yet my boy but heading in the right direction. It’ll be worth every tear and every minute of stress to see you back home buddy, keep on keeping on my horse of a lifetime!
