“THERE was no such thing as gender bias or discrimination in our house, or prejudice against women. No hint or even suggestion that the male gender was in any way superior. In fact, we were probably brought up thinking the opposite. Myself and my sisters are eternally grateful to our parents for empowering us to believe we could do anything we wanted.”
Annemarie O’Brien – Leopardstown Ladies Event 2018, giving every reason to believe her late father was ahead of his time.
NAAS Racecourse is to be applauded for picking out many different means to attract racegoers. It was notable that, over the winter, even on the big days, there was a distinct lack of females in attendance at Irish meetings. Is it that perhaps ladies don’t want to go on their own? There’s no excuse tomorrow and a great opportunity to enjoy free racing on International Women’s Day as the track are celebrating all the amazing women in racing.
A panel of top female racing personalities includes trainer Jessica Harrington, jockey Lisa O’Neill, Dr Jennifer Pugh and stable staff member Debbie Flavin, who will discuss their challenges, opportunities and inspirations. Tamso Doyle will MC the event and complimentary tea/coffee and sweet treats will be served.
All ladies go free to racing after the event in The Circle Lounge, ground floor from 1-2pm.
LAST year’s Cheltenham Festival saw honours even, not in training but in breeding, with 14 winners each bred in Ireland and France. Hopefully we can gain top honours this time.
