THE 19-time champion jump jockey A.P. McCoy is to be the subject of a new all-access feature documentary made in association with BBC Films and the Irish Film Board. It’s a chance to record the working life of a jockey who has passed into the realms of legend while still operating at the top of his game and set against the most dramatic and picturesque of sports.

Currently filming at locations and racecourses across Britain and Ireland, Being AP (working title) has exclusive access to the Northern Irish jockey, his family and racing teams for the 2014-15 season.

The 40 year-old has notched up more than 4,300 wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near 25-year racing career.

Racing babies

Trainer Gavin Cromwell and his wife Kiva have welcomed a third child into the world, a baby boy (Cameron Lee). Weighing in at a healthy 9lb 6oz, he has a brother and sister eagerly waiting for him.

Another bonny boy who has just arrived is a first baby for Martin Walsh, manager of Swordlestown Stud, and his wife Ros. This little fellow weighs in at 9lb 3oz. Congratulations to all.

Jack’s the lad

Jack O’Leary, son of Eddie and Wendy O’Leary, and a student at Clongowes Wood College, continues to progress in his running career. The European Cross Country Championships held in the Bulgarian mountain resort of Sarakov last month marked another milestone in his promising career.

Following a medal winning performance at the All Ireland Club Cross Country in November, Jack got his place on the Irish team.

Jack has only just turned 17 and has two more years to compete in this European junior category.

Good luck in his bid to win the All Ireland Schools Senior Cross Country title on March 7th, at Clongowes, over a track he knows every inch of.
