THE two-year-old Chairmanoftheboard blew his cover by winning by eight lengths at Goodwood on his debut on Sunday, but connections of the Mick Channon-trained son of Slade Power are unlikely to mind.

There is not a lot to go on in time terms, with only one other race on the straight course, but Chairmanoftheboard ran 0.40s quicker than the useful older handicapper Alaadel later on, and that looks good even after allowing for presumed deterioration in the rain-affected surface.

I have a timefigure of 108 on Chairmanoftheboard, which suggests he will not be at all out of place in group company next time, though it does remain to be seen just how well the time comparison works out.

There were listed-race wins for fellow juveniles Vintage Brut at York (107 timefigure), All The King’s Men (99) and Peach Tree (97), both at Navan, and for the older horses Ship Of Dreams at Cork (84), Global Giant at Dundalk (102), Sir Erec at Limerick (95) and Medicine Jack at Navan (81).

Sectionals show that the last-named prevailed in a race in which the early pace was too fast, which should have suited Lost Treasure, who nonetheless somehow managed to lose by a short-head despite coming there with a wet sail.
