SIZING Pottsie’s six-length win in the two-mile handicap chase at Fairyhouse last Saturday came in a time 7.4s (at least 30 lengths) quicker than the beginners’ chase won by 133-rated Front View shortly after and earns the Jessica Harrington runner a 158 rating. He would not need to improve much further to become a genuine Champion Chase contender.

Torygraph is making into a useful staying hurdler, and his win in a maiden on that same Fairyhouse card (much faster than the other two races at course and distance) comes out at 136 on my figures.

There might not have been much depth to the concluding four-year-old fillies’ bumper but easy winner Brandy Love, on 130, goes straight into joint-third in a division headed by 141-rated Sir Gerhard.

The win of Captain Guinness in a two-mile beginners’ chase was the highlight of Punchestown’s Friday card, the effort worth a 146 figure for all that the time value is difficult to pin down. Runner-up Midnight Run (140) is nearly as promising – his sole hurdles win could be even better than this – and he is likely to be winning races before long.

Naas on Monday saw a couple of decent winners in Delvino in the mares’ maiden hurdle and Espanito Bello in the beginners’ chase, both running 135 figures on time. Take Tea is 125 on bumper ratings but it was a pretty slow overall time.
