THERE were few notable timefigures in Britain and Ireland in the period under review, away from the marquee event at Sandown.

Dylan Mouth’s win under joint top weight of 9-10 in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock was the best of them, worth a figure of 115, which suggests the Marco Botti-trained six-year-old is back to the kind of level he showed when winning the Group 2 Gran Premio di Milano over a year ago.

Dylan Mouth’s time was 4.35s quicker than that recorded by The Black Princess in winning the Lancashire Oaks 35 minutes earlier, a race which turned into a burn-up in the last three furlongs and resulted in a timefigure of just 67.

It is some time now since The Black Princess had a chance to show her worth in a well-run race.

BROWNSTOWN STAKES

Speed was of the essence in the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse, also, and British challenger Realtra had the most of it. Her overall time was slower than the claimer and the maiden which preceded it and therefore prompts a timefigure of a mere 52.

Timefom do not produce timefigures at Tipperary, but a simple time comparison between the two five-furlong races on last Thursday’s card suggests Sirici ran to about 88 in winning the listed race there in an overall time 0.15s slower than the older-horse maiden.

The fastest timefigure by a juvenile in the period under review, leaving aside Havana Grey’s Sandown race, actually came from Barraquero in a minor event at Chepstow that resulted in a faster overall time than the older-horse handicap which followed it.

Barraquero, who carries the old Sangster colours, gets a timefigure of 95 and should make his mark at a higher level.
