THERE was not a lot going on in Irish flat racing, bar bad weather, but four listed races were won with varying degrees of alacrity and there were other promising performances on display.

That fine old warrior Brendan Brackan was best with a 101 timefigure in winning the Listed Navigation Stakes at Cork, followed by Elegant Pose and Red Stars (both 89 timefigures) for the listed events at Naas on Sunday, the Garnet Stakes and the Bluebell Stakes respectively.

Goldrush managed just a 79 timefigure in landing the Listed Carlingford Stakes at Dundalk on Friday, but that resulted from a messy contest and a fast finish: the impeccably-bred filly looks up to making her mark in group company given the chance.

Goldrush was the fastest winner over the last three furlongs (34.38s) on the Dundalk card, but one of the beaten two-year-olds in the median auction maiden was not too far behind in 35.27s. That filly was Bring On The Band, who finished fourth for Ger Lyons on her debut, and looks capable of stepping up on this in due course.
