THE two graded winners at Naas last Sunday were Forge Meadow and Alisier d’Irlande, but neither excelled on the clock, with timefigures of 116 and 134 respectively.

A more significant winning effort on the card seemed to come from Edwulf, who took the Nas Na Riogh Novice Handicap Chase from a Turf Club mark of 145 by eight lengths.

A well-run race in heavy ground means that Edwulf returned a 153 timefigure, which places him in sixth on time among novice chasers seen so far this season. He should have a good chance in the National Hunt Chase if his stamina lasts for an extra mile and a half (and that seems more likely than not).

Tin Soldier, at Thurles, and Pleasant Company, at Fairyhouse, were other significant winners in Ireland in the period under review, though timefigures of 123 and 136 respectively are nothing to get especially excited about.
