THE main races outside the two Guineas over the three days at the Curragh were less competitive, but produced some good winners.

Magical had little more than an exercise gallop to beat stablemate Flag Of Honour by seven lengths in the Tattersalls Gold Cup on Sunday but in the process ran a 119 timefigure which gets raised to 128 on the back of a 35.02s closing sectional.

She has turned out to be very good but is not alone among older middle-distance fillies/mares in that respect.

The bare form of Constantinople’s Gallinule Stakes win on Friday evening may not be all that much, but a 35.09s last three furlongs indicates that his base 98 timefigure can be raised to 115, which is the kind of figure that entitles him to a crack at a higher level.

Siskin was an impressive winner of the Listed Marble Hill Stakes on the same card by two and a half lengths from King Neptune, running a 101 timefigure which gets upgraded to 106 on the back of a 34.03s last three furlongs.

That puts the Ger Lyons-trained son of First Defence second only to Ascot winner Ventura Rebel (107) among two-year-olds seen so far.

Mr Lupton was a ready winner of the Greenlands Stakes, but in a time less than 1.0s quicker than 88-rated Blairmayne in the previous race, a 33.83s last three furlongs bumping up his base figure of 102 to just 105.

As mentioned elsewhere, Beshaayir’s Lanwades Stud Stakes win came at the end of a race run at a true gallop, which she herself set, and her slightly underwhelming 105 timefigure does not merit an upgrade.

There were also useful handicap wins from Viadera (108) on Friday, and Insignia Of Rank (105) and Karasi (102) on Saturday.
