THE North-West Region raced at Finner Camp, Bundoran last Sunday. Kian “Tubs” McNally took the day’s Leading Rider Award with a treble, Dylan O’Connor and Keithen Kennedy both registered doubles while Tommy Halford had his first ride in public as he gave Silverside an accomplished drive in the 10-furlong race.

Twelve-year-old ‘Tubs’ McNally has been dominating the pony classes this year and he won all three last Sunday, albeit with one dead-heat when Where It All Began and the Dylan O’Connor-ridden Temple Hill Tamara served up a thriller where the camera was unable to separate them in the 12.2hh race.

Tubs had an easier time in the 14hh race where Unhinged required little more than a lap of honour to see off her solitary rival, the Paddy Hanlon-ridden Lucy. Five Stone Of Lead took the 14.2hh race as Tubs dictated affairs from the front, stretching clear over the final two furlongs.

Racing opened with a two-mile horse race and Keithen Kennedy took the honours here on the always prominent Mr. Bowen for Aidan Melia. The mile race completed a double for the Melia/Kennedy Monasterevin partnership as Keithen led from just under two furlongs out on Best Friends.

O’Connor double

Dylan O’Connor continued his great run with another double and in addition to his 12.2hh dead-heat on Temple Hill Tamara, he took the 15hh race on Cali Cartel.

Dylan was content to sit five lengths off the pace-setting duo of Louis Vitton and Remix before delivering the Patrick O’Sullivan of Killorglin, Co. Kerry-owned winner with a perfectly timed run to lead in the shadow of the post.

Bipolar Blondie was a very impressive winner of the 12-furlong race for Shane Crabbe and Conor Stone-Walsh. Conor sat second throughout until the top of the hill the final time where he struck for home quickly putting the result without doubt in a matter of strides.

Monasterevin, Co. Kildare-based owner/trainer, Shane completed a double as Let It Go took the concluding 10-furlong race under a very confident Danny Gilligan who landed the winner in front in the shadow of the post to deny Dylan O’Connor a treble.
