GARVAGH SUNDAY
THE second day of Garvagh saw Rossa Ryan record a double for owner-trainer Adrian Browne. It included the feature of the weekend, the Garvagh Derby over an extended two mile trip in which Let Me Go returned from an absence to win in convincing fashion.
Ryan sent him about his business two furlongs out and he will be a leading contender for all the big two mile events. The Browne/Ryan combination had opened the day with victory in the 12-furlong race as Let Him Go went one better than on Saturday as he saw off the effort of the Liam Gilligan-ridden Gentleman Jack.
Morgan Spice added Sunday’s seven-furlong race to his mile win of Saturday as he quickened impressively to win after getting a very patient ride from Erin Campbell who sat out the back before making smooth progress from three furlongs out. Ciara Mannion made it two for the ladies as she took the 10-furlong race on Medical Science. The winner responded bravely to a strong drive to see off I’ll Be Your Hero.
The Flannery yard made another trip to the winner’s enclosure when I’m On A Mission came out on top of a protracted duel with the Jay Gibney-ridden Aisling’s Dream to take the maiden under Chris Casey.
The 14.2hh race went to the Luke McAteer-ridden Pacman, who looked impressive in seeing off Titanium and Dylan Browne McMonagle.
The 15hh race was won by Sky Diamond who was given an enterprising ride by Downpatrick-based Daniel McMenamin. The winner struck for home early and when The Wagon Wheel closed a furlong out he looked set to score. However, he couldn’t get by Sky Diamond who rallied again to win.
The local novice riders’ race provided a fabulous finish in which Jamie Kelly on Little Moonshine had to share the spoils with the Rosalea Laird-ridden King Creole.
