ASDEE

ASDEE Races took place on Littor Strand in Kerry last Sunday where Rory King won the featured Asdee Derby as part of a double while Darragh O’Keeffe added to two earlier wins with victory in the two confined races making it four on the day.

For the third year in succession, Ballybrown Boy claimed the Asdee Derby for the Kevin White headed Deelview Racing. With last year’s winning pilot Killian Leonard having progressed to the apprentice ranks, fellow Kanturk, Co. Cork rider Rory King has taken over the rides on the Deelview horses, and he reeled in She’s All That on whom Darragh O’Keeffe had attempted to make all.

King also teamed up with Deelview to win the 12-furlong race on Carpe Diem who led inside the final two furlongs before holding the late charge of Kilkaskin.

After a consistent series of placed-runs Sandycove broke her duck for the season as she landed the 14.2hh race in the hands of 15-year-old Mallow rider Darragh O’Keeffe for Kilkee owner Willie McGrath. She acted better on the sharp track than One Of The Boys as Darragh slipped through on the inner at half-way before coming home to win by a couple of lengths.

O’Keeffe took the maiden race for The Peaky Blinders Syndicate as he brought View Lad through to lead down the back-straight, staying on strongly from thereon to consign Mr Bush to his third consecutive runner-up spot.

O’Keeffe’s other winners came in the two confined races. Tell The Story made all to win the pony race for Bob Sexton while Darragh also employed front-running tactics to win the confined horse race on Shrek for Ray Keane.

Danny Sheehy added a further two winners to his seasonal tally. He took the 15hh race on Farmer Boyce as they led from two furlongs out to deny the Rossa Ryan-ridden The Wagon Wheel who made the long journey from Letterkenny.

Sheehy then took the mile race on proven beach specialist Top Of The Morning for Richard Foley, a deserved success after three straight second place finishes.

Danny’s younger brother Mikey didn’t go home empty handed either as he won the opening 12.2hh race on the totally dominant Another Tiger.
