THE traditional southern region Alihies, August 15th meeting took place last Wednesday week.
This meeting on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork has being going for over 150 years and the tight circuit coupled with the remoteness of the location mitigates against normal sized fields.
The track rode fast and a number of horses slipped up during the day and two of the races saw solitary finishers.
Daniel King added three winners to his seasonal tally as he shared a double with Kieran Murphy with Another Legend coming home alone in the 12-furlong race and Killian’s Pride taking the two-mile race.
He had earlier teamed up with the Tyner family as Crystal Lady beat stablemate Level Headed in the 14.2hh race.
Conor Walsh rode a double on the day starting with Another Tiger in the 12.2hh race, who denied veteran Tail To Tail under Dylan O’Connor.
Walsh followed with a win in the 13.2hh where Hello Thunder came home in front of stablemate Sore Looser.
Jackie Mulvihill was another rider to double-up as he took the mile race on solitary finisher The Rubber Man and then took the maiden race on Roll Of Thunder, both for David Cahill.
Michael McGuane, fresh from a double in Dingle on Sunday, made the trip from Co. Kildare worthwhile by taking the 15hh race on That’s Our Grouse.
