ON Saturday in Limerick, Rory King made the transition from Pony Racing to the racecourse as he had his first ride for Richard O’Brien, and on Sunday in Castlegregory younger brother Daniel hit the headlines as he recorded a magnificent five-timer.

Daniel opened his account in the 14hh Race as Tell The Story followed up on his Castleisland win the previous week with a pillar-to-post victory for Bob Sexton.

Ballybrown Boy won many a race for Rory King and Daniel took over with a win in the 12 furlong race as the Dealview Racing veteran held off the determined challenge of the Mikey Sheehy-ridden The Poacher.

Following on from a 15hh win in Castleisland, the Alex Hamilton-owned On The Edge moved up in class to land the featured Castlegregory Derby, quickening impressively over the final furlong to win by a couple of lengths from local hope, the Ross Sugrue-ridden Forgive And Forget.

Daniel teamed up with Dingle-based Joe O’Brien to land the Maiden Race as The Three Sisters strode clear over the final two furlongs with the Jackie Mulvihill-ridden Hill View Girl chasing him home. Winner number five for Daniel came in the Local Horse Race as Painted Black won for HPRA Chairman David Geary who wasn’t present sadly due to the recent death of his father Jim.

TREBLE

Mikey Sheehy showed he will not relinquish his Irish Field Rider’s Championship easily as he bagged a treble. He teamed up with Mallow owner Maurice Ahern who’s Pacman is the model of consistency, winning for the third week in a row in the 14.2hh Race.

Good Times Ahead is now in his seventh season in a career that has included victory in the Dingle Golden Mile under Jack Kennedy and he showed there is plenty more life in him as the Ben Daly-trained and Three County Syndicate-owned charge took the first divide of the 10 Furlong Race.

Mikey completed his treble on beach specialist Top Of The Morning who took the second divide of that 10 Furlong Race as he got home in front of See The Dream and Pavlova in a thrilling finish.

Racing opened with the 12.2hh Race as the Conor Walsh-ridden Another Tiger got back on the winning track after a reverse in Castleisland with the remarkable veteran Tail To Tail taking the runner-up spot under young Dylan O’Connor, son of the well-known amateur rider Mikey. Michael McGuane had a memorable day in Castleisland where the Co. Kildare rider registered a treble and he made his long journey seem a little shorter as he delivered Sore Looser with a well-timed challenge to hit the front inside the final hundred yards and claim the 13.2hh Race for Listowel owner Jack O’Sullivan.

The Soft Touch Syndicate took the 15hh Race as Red Handed collected under Tipperary pilot Joey Sheridan.

The winner is trained by Kevin McGillicuddy on the beach in Dooks, Co. Kerry and put that to good advantage as a couple of her rivals failed to handle the track and threw away their chance on the bends with the Ben Kennedy-ridden Footsteps In The Sand claiming the minor honours.

The Local Pony race went to Dylan Fitzgerald who partnered Go For It to victory, a fitting reward for the work he put in to get this new addition to the calendar established.
