AS was evident in Taghmon the previous week, the wisdom of running three horse and pony meetings on the same day can be questioned as small fields were the order of the day last Sunday in Big Isle, Letterkenny.

Dylan Browne-McMonagle wasn’t complaining however as he rode eight of the 10 winners on the day, six of them for the Adrian Browne-led Browne Syndicate, the other two for the Holian Syndicate.

Athea Jade is one of the most consistent horses around and he returned after a break to take the 10-furlong race, drawing clear over the final two furlongs, and his target in Dingle is likely to be the Laura Barry Memorial Ladies Derby.

Browne-McMonagle would have had high hopes of winning the other two races also but Four Stone Of Lead ran below par in the first of the 15hh races over seven furlongs, which went to Sam Ewing on Watch This Space for Sammy Laird.

In the concluding non-winners race, Dylan found one too good in the long-time leader Donegal Dan who was given a well-judged ride by Sam Ewing to win for Ryan Gormley.
