THE Up Monaghan cry, has been sadly missed on our racetracks in the last two years but Oliver Brady’s spirit and legacy lives on.

The Shabra Charity Foundation, founded by the late racehorse trainer and Rita Shah, are hosting the Leopardstown Racecourse Pavilion on Champions Day, January 29th.

The Monaghan handler, one of Irish racing’s most colourful characters, passed away in September 2014 after a long battle with illness. Throughout his illness, he tirelessly raised money for charity while maintaining his training yard in Ballybay.

The Shabra Charity Foundation are helping to keep Brady’s promise to provide top-class global gene sequencing equipment to the Mater Hospital in Dublin. This piece of equipment will allow the hospital to identify the gene mutations present in the population which can reveal conditions such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Sudden Adult (arrhythmic) Death Syndrome.

Currently, no such equipment is available and patients can wait up to two years in order for test results to be returned from other countries. In order to become the first hospital in Ireland to be able to provide this service, approximately €1 million will be needed for lab refurbishment, automated DNA extraction equipment and two gene sequencers.

The Leopardstown Racecourse Pavilion are providing tickets at €100 per person, €1,000 per table of 10 or €1,200 per table of 12. These tickets include admission to the racecourse, a reserved table for all guests, a private bar and Tote facilities, a three course meal along with music and entertainment.
