IT was marvellous to see the Tracey Collins-trained Rippling Waters come in second at Dundalk on Wednesday for owners the Cancer Trials Ireland Syndicate.

Jack Cantillon of Tinakill House Stud takes up the story: “I tweeted a suggestion that perhaps we should buy a horse in the €5,000 claimer at Laytown and race it to support Pat Smullen and his fund raising for Cancer Trials Ireland. This message went viral and hundreds chipped in.

“Tracey (Collins) messaged to say she would train for free for the winter season at Dundalk. Then every other service provider imaginable waived their fees - vets, HRI, silks etc. It was a crowd sourced movement to help Pat all from a tweet. Her previous owners even donated the claim price (Melbourne 10, Jamie Osborne’s Laytown-raiding syndicate). All money she wins goes direct to the charity.

“The whole syndicate was delighted that the generosity of Tracey Collins was rewarded with a second place finish by Rippling Waters at Dundalk on her first start for us, raising a further €2,000 for Cancer Trials Ireland. It’s a testament to Tracey’s talent for the filly to perform so well so quickly. The syndicate is a great way to stay connected to that magic day back in September (The Curragh, Irish Champions Weekend) and support Pat’s mission while having fun.

“On Wednesday Rippling was drawn in Newry in stall 15 so we’re very much looking forward to what she can do if she’s drawn in Dundalk the next day!”

Irish Cancer Society cheque

YESTERDAY at Naas, Shane Foley and his fellow jockeys presented a cheque to Jim Bolger and Emma Hayden from the Irish Cancer Society for Hurling for Cancer - Shane got all the jockeys to give a riding fee to the cause and total raised was €6,911.21. If you have space in this weeks paper would be great to get it in!
