JORDAN McCarthy of CRY104fm radio has been in touch regarding a new six-part series Leading The Field, documenting the strong racing culture in the area of East Cork/West Waterford, which kicks off tomorrow at 6.30pm on CRY104fm - available online - in Youghal Co Cork.

It will explore the locals’ love affair with the sport of racing, highlighting the various successes that the local jockeys, trainers and breeders have had on a national and international scale. Davy Russell, Denis O’Regan and Frank Motherway are featured in the CRY104fm documentary, which will examine how the area is now rivalling Kildare for the ‘Home Of Racing’ title.

The idea came from the 2014 Gold Cup as Lord Windermere was bred in Killeagh, ridden by a Youghal man in Davy Russell, and the runner-up, On HIs Own, was bred in Killeagh too. Horses bred a few miles apart along the N25 in the Killeagh/Youghal area and all that separated them at the line of the biggest race of the season was a whisker - it is quite the story! Epsiode one focuses on that famous Gold Cup and the career of dual champion jockey Davy Russell.
