AS one of our colleagues in the Irish Farmers Journal won the best dressed prize at the Irish Derby, The Irish Field is going all out to win the Boodles Ladies Day Style Contest at today’s Oaks meeting.

Kate Harrington is one of the judges and will be bribed or threatened or both. If that fails, our own Brendan McArdle is MC and he will surely make the right call when the time comes.

The main prize is valued in excess of €10,000. It includes a champagne appointment at Boodles’ Grafton Street store and jewellery worth €5,000 from their collection.

The winner also receives a two-night stay in the Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa’s Presidential suite, afternoon tea and dinner for two, two treatments in the spa, and one year’s membership of Powerscourt’s leisure club.

Four runners-up will receive an overnight stay for two in Powerscourt.

We’d be happy with bed and breakfast in Brittas Bay.

Up the Lillies!

WELL done to Lauren Murtagh, daughter of Johnny and Orla, on her All-Ireland Ladies Football Final win with Kildare last weekend.

Lauren plays centre back for the Lilywhites who defeated Roscommon by nine points in Moate, Co Westmeath. For good measure, Lauren was named Player of the Match.

Manager award

WE hope Joseph O’Brien has a big enough trophy cabinet in Piltown. His latest piece of silverware is the Philips Lighting Sports Manager of the Month award. Joseph’s newest owner Joe Schmidt won the same award earlier this year and so did Gordon Elliott.

Mic drop

DESSIE Scahill’s farewell tour of Irish racecourses concludes at the Curragh this weekend. The Irish Oaks will be his final classic call and on Sunday he will hang up the microphone for the final time.

Cunning stunt

WELL done to Kentucky owner-breeder Ken Ramsey who has managed to name his Siyouni filly Siyounexttuesday. Hopefully the name does not reflect the filly’s temperament. They’ll have some fun if she has a foal by Kitten’s Joy.
