TRAINER Conor O’Dwyer and wife Audrey managed to grab a few days away in Tenerife last weekend and there are reports of complaints about the roaring coming from their hotel bedroom last Friday night week. Audrey swears they were only watching Dundalk on the iPad and the screaming was for Jon Ess, winner of the 10-furlong handicap under Billy Lee.

“We got a great kick out of it,” reported Audrey. “Conor felt the horse had been working well in a first-time visor and, if he got out of the gates quickly, he had a great chance. Billy was great on him, as the horse had just gone a bit lazy, so he kept him up to his job.”

Jon Ess was returned the 4/1 favourite but was as big as 20/1 the night before. Now a winner of five races, he is owned by Hugo Kane, Andrew Cross, Charlie Moore, Rob Conlon, Raymond Conlon, Michael O’Leary, James Collins, David Cox and Audrey. “Hugo was the only owner there on the night and was buzzing after the race. He loves his horses and enjoys a good value bet. He did a great interview, giving all the crew at home a lovely mention.”

Conor also had a point-to-point winner on Sunday in Tinahely. Audrey said: “A few winners give us all a boost and makes it easier to get up every morning. We’re up on numbers this year, which is great. We are blessed with such lovely, loyal owners. We wouldn’t be here without them.”
