DOESN’T he look the part? The nation’s favourite trainer Mick (or Michael to his family of 11 siblings) Winters is one of the family acting in the movie Float Like A Butterfly, directed by his sister Carmel.

Their brother Tony explains all: “Michael plays a horse seller and the film involves the traveller community and is a lovely film set in the 1960s. There’s six boys and six girls in the Winters family and I’m in it too as is our sister Sabrina (married to trainer Adrian Maguire), our nephew, their son, jockey Finny Maguire, and another nephew Kaelin Forde. It’s filmed down in Schull and Ballydehob and involves goings on with horses and three-card tricks and the like.’’

And yes it does involve Muhammad Ali, as one of the characters has boxing aspirations. Should be a showstopper.

Support Rickie racing at Cork

A SWIMMING accident in July has left Rickie Healy with serious spinal injuries and he is now awaiting rehabilitation at Dun Laoghaire. Rickie was a member of the Duhallow Pony Club, represented Ireland in Tetrathlon and used to whip in to the Duhallow Hunt. Just recently before his accident he had landed his perfect job, as first whip to the Galway Blazers.

All proceeds from the first day of Cork Racecourse’s Winter Festival will support the Rickie Healy Appeal next Saturday, October 14th. www.corkracecourse.ie
