It will be held virtually tomorrow Sunday, November 22nd, beginning at noon ET so make sure to get your timings right if keen to aquire any of the covetable art.
Of interest to collectors this side of the Atlantic could be two fine pieces used for advertising Jameson whiskey. One is entitled Welcome to the Winner’s Circle, Jameson Whiskey and the other Experience the Best of Ireland, Jameson Whiskey, both signed, oil on canvas, laid down on board.
According to the catalogue, the Irish Tourism Commission and Jameson teamed up in the 1930s to advertise and these were possibly part of that campaign.
The winner’s circle piece depicts the Irish-bred Arctic Prince making note of his victory at Epsom in 1951. At 28/1 odds in a field of 33, Arctic Prince finished six lengths ahead of the field with Chuck Spares up.
The other painting, in addition to Jameson Irish Whiskey, depicts two famed attractions near Dublin, Leopardstown Racecourse and Portmarnock Golf Club. Still attached to the face of the piece is a label from the Jameson Distiller’s Co., noting the work as a proposed advertising campaign and not to remove, signed off by an employee C.R.H.
