A BIG effort has gone into collecting some covetable lots for this year’s Hurling For Cancer Research fund raising as unfortunately the annual usually hotly contested match between the superstars of Jim Bolger’s team vs Davy Russell’s team cannot take place.

A 2021 Grand National racecard signed by Rachael Blackmore, yard visits with Johnny Murtagh and Henry de Bromhead, a signed Dublin football jersey, race-day experiences at Leopardstown and the Curragh and luxury overnight stays at Lyrath Estate Hotel & Spa and Mount Juliet are among the amazing items announced as part of Hurling For Cancer Research’s online auction in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Founder

Hurling For Cancer Research founder Jim Bolger said: “Unfortunately, everyone has been touched by cancer and it is only through the vital research work conducted by the Irish Cancer Society that we can combat this terrible disease so I would appeal to everyone to support the online auction in anyway. There are some fantastic items available for bids and the online auction site also takes donations.”

Rosemary Simmons of the Irish Cancer Society said: “Hurling For Cancer Research is such a highlight on our fundraising calendar each year, helping to raise vital funds for the organisation. We will miss the match again this year, but are delighted that this incredible online auction is taking place.

“This year more than 44,000 people in Ireland will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. But with thanks to research and advances in early detection and treatment, survival rates are continuing to improve and people are living well with and beyond cancer throughout Ireland.”

The full list of auction items is now available to view so get ready to bid at galabid.com/hurlingforcancer. The auction closes on Tuesday, August 10th at 9pm.

Galway supports the welfare of horses

THERE’S always time to remember horse welfare, especially during the week of great Galway racing. The team at Galway Racecourse is continuing to support the Irish Horse Welfare Trust, Ireland’s largest, longest running dedicated equine charity, providing specialist care for thoroughbred horses. The Irish Horse Welfare Trust was set up in 1999 to reschool, rehabilitate and rehome thoroughbred horses. There are so many ways to help out with this vital work.
