AN old favourite of The Irish Field, even though he is only 14 years old, pony racing supremo Dylan Browne McMonagle from Letterkenny, will be appearing at the Letterkenny Memories night in the Station House Hotel in the town on Monday, January 29th with videos and stories of his impressive racing career so far.

The local teenager comes from a family who have been in racing for decades and have owned and trained hundreds of winners over more than 50 years.

Dylan started riding in the local pony races at nine so is now a veteran. He made it to the top of the pony racing world by taking the Dingle Derby in 2015 on board Let’s Go for his uncle Adrian Browne.

An English company, JustSo Productions, came to Ireland to do a documentary on the talented young rider, Five Stone Of Lead, because when winning the Dingle Derby, Dylan carried five stone of lead to make the 9st 12lb weight as he only weighed 4st 12lb himself!

You can watch the five minute film on YouTube and someone who did and invited Dylan to stay for a few days was A.P. McCoy who no doubt passed on some top tips.
