1.50 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden 5f 164yds

Amalfi Coast can continue the bright start made by the Ballydoyle juveniles this season. Aidan O’Brien has won with all three two-year-olds that he has run so far in 2021 and this colt makes plenty of appeal as a son of Showcasing out of a half-sister to a stakes-winning juvenile.

In a race where all bar one of the runners is making their debut, the selection might have most to fear from the No Nay Never colt Swift One who is a half-brother to a trio of two-year-old winners. His trainer Joseph O’Brien also fields Andreas Vesalius who is a son of the promising freshman sire Caravaggio.

SELECTION: AMALFI COAST

Pretty Smart is a dual winner here over five furlongs and can be expected to progress from her comeback fifth at Dundalk last weekend when she was beaten just over three lengths by Fit For Function.

A likely danger is the top-weight, Noirvento, who won first time out last season and had the selection two and a half lengths back in third when scoring at Dundalk in November. However, Pretty Smart meets Noirvento on 8lbs better terms this time. Screen Siren could be interesting on her handicap debut if matching the form that saw her finish third to Ascot Adventure in a five-furlong maiden on quick ground at Cork in September.

SELECTION: PRETTY SMART

Next best: Noirvento

Iva Batt could follow up her maiden success at Dundalk last weekend where she defeated Roses Blue by one length in a six-furlong contest. That was a good effort on her first start since October and there is every reason to think that she can progress further. In addition, she doesn’t look too badly treated on her form last season which featured a fourth to St Mark’s Basilica in a Curragh maiden and also when beaten by less than three lengths in a conditions race at this track won by the very smart Lipizzaner.

She is preferred to the vastly experienced Glow Worm who has yet to win but has run many solid races in defeat, the latest of which yielded a third to Abeona at the Curragh last weekend.

SELECTION: IVA BATT

Course winner Lipizzaner can get his three-year-old season off to a winning start. He showed some very smart form throughout 2020 and ended his campaign on a high by winning a listed event at Doncaster before turning out at Keeneland a fortnight later to finish a good fourth in the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.

That calibre of form looks to give him an edge over these rivals and he is preferred to another smart juvenile from last season in Measure Of Magic. She was third in the Listed Legacy Stakes at Dundalk on her last run of 2020, while her third in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster would indicate that she is more than capable of making her presence felt at stakes level.

SELECTION: LIPIZZANER

Willow might be able to progress on what she showed last season. She couldn’t build on a promising debut effort when she was comfortably held behind Nicest in a Leopardstown maiden in July but she returned from three months off to win another Leopardstown maiden in good style in the last few weeks of the season.

As a daughter of Peeping Fawn she should progress well as a three-year-old and she should also enjoy moving up to this trip. She can see off Talacre who showed a decent level of form last term and signed off with a win over one mile at Gowran Park in September when she gave the impression that she would relish tackling middle distances as a three-year-old.

The Group 3-placed Thinking Of You is a promising filly and is the top-rated runner in the field which makes her a significant contender.

SELECTION: WILLOW

Next best: Talacre

4.20 Vintage Crop Stakes (Group 3) 1m 6f

The Irish Derby hero Santiago appeals as one that could make into a top-class stayer and this race should be within his grasp on his comeback. On his last two starts as a three-year-old he ran a creditable fourth in the St Leger and a respectable third in the Goodwood Cup. A repeat of those efforts would be sufficient although there is a good chance that he is capable of better than he showed for both of those runs.

Stratum has the advantage of a recent run having run out a clear-cut winner of a conditions event at Gowran Park earlier this month and he might be the one to chase home the selection. Baron Samedi made tremendous progress last season and is a coming force in this division but he hasn’t run this year and neither has his stablemate Master Of Reality who was a shock winner of this race in 2019 but has since proven himself a high-class stayer. The latter took a couple of runs to hit peak form last season.

SELECTION: SANTIAGO

4.50 Donaghmore Handicap (Div I) 1m 5f

Lady Dahlia has plenty of weight and she has to prove herself on ground this quick. However, she does look like one that could make good progress from three to four and this trip at this sort of track looks ideal for her. After just five runs she is open to further improvement and there was plenty to like about the manner in which she ground out a win in a Curragh maiden late last season.

If coping with the ground she may well deal with the challenge of Excelcius who caught the eye when sixth to Dancing Approach in a 10-furlong Leopardstown handicap last week. He might progress for the step up in trip. Melliferous was ninth in that Leopardstown race but would have lively claims based on her previous second to Thosedaysaregone at Dundalk.

SELECTION: LADY DAHLIA

Next best: Exelcius

5.20 Donaghmore Handicap (Div II) 1m 5f

On his Irish debut, Purdey’s Gift shaped better than the final result when he was seventh to Construct in a reasonable two-mile handicap at Dundalk in November. He has only run once since then and that outing came in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle in January when he was second to Light Brigade. He was a fairly consistent staying handicapper during his time in Britain and should be able to win again on the level.

The unexposed Vultan showed promise on all three of his maiden outings last season and should be up to making his mark in a staying handicap this season.

SELECTION: PURDEY’S GIFT

Next best: Vultan
