BEST wishes for a speedy recovery to Patsy Cosgrave who could be sidelined until September having broken his leg in a fall at Newbury on Sunday.

Riding Capla Berry in the concluding seven-furlong handicap, the Co Down-born jockey was unseated when the Rae Guest-trained filly clipped heels inside the last. Cosgrave walked away from the incident but was later advised to go for an x-ray which showed that he had fractured his fibula. The 38-year-old, who had partnered 10 winners since racing resumed, could be out of action for between four and six weeks.

On the level, there were wins for Nathan Evans at Hamilton last Thursday week, for Martin Harley at Haydock on Friday and Sandown on Tuesday, for Barry McHugh at Haydock on Saturday and Catterick on Wednesday, for Paddy Mathers at Ayr on Monday and for Luke McAteer at Naas on Wednesday.

Over jumps, Simon Torrens recorded wins at Tramore on Saturday and Ballinrobe on Wednesday, while Jody McGarvey was on the mark at Gowan on Monday when Danny McMenamin won at Market Rasen.

Brian Hughes, who partnered a winner for the Donald McCain yard on Sunday, was due to be presented with his trophy as leading National Hunt jockey in Britain for the 2019/20 season yesterday at Cartmel.
