IT was great to see Sammy Jo Bell record a double at Musselburgh on Wednesday, both winners being owned and trained by Wilf Storey who bred the first of the pair, Mr Sundowner.
The Co Antrim-born jockey was also on the mark the previous Thursday at Hamilton where she landed the two-year-old maiden on the Dark Angel filly Queen Penn, who is trained by her boss Richard Fahey.
Brian Hughes rode a brace of winners on Bank Holiday Monday at Cartmel and there was a double of sorts for the Hamilton family that afternoon also.
Local trainer Brian sent out Sean Graham’s Jimmy Two Times to justify odds-on favouritism in Downpatrick’s beginners’ chase under Andrew Lynch, while his son Sam was on the winning East Down team in The Pony Club Area 17 65cms eventing championships at Laurel Vale Equestrian Centre.
Liam Lennon turned to track specialist Declan McDonogh when booking a jockey for Haqeeba at Bellewstown on Wednesday and Maurice McCavitt’s Haatef filly duly obliged in the five-furlong handicap by two and a half lengths.
