FOLLOWING on from the four-year-old point-to-point maiden win of the McParlans’ €600 purchase Golden Drumlee, Caledon trainer Andy Oliver also displayed some astute buying skills when Fizzy Friday scored on her debut at Dundalk last Friday night.

The two-year-old bay Royal Applause filly, who won by a comfortable length and a quarter in the hands of Conor Hoban, was knocked down to Oliver for just 1,000 guineas when coming up as Lot 2040 in Book 3 of the October Yearling Sale at Tattersalls last year.

Described as a “very correct filly” by her owner/trainer, Fizzy Friday is the first foal of her dam Reyamour (by Azamour) who, when trained by Alan King, won over hurdles at three under Robert Thornton and twice on the flat at four when ridden by Fergus Sweeney.

The family is light in winners close up but, in its further removes, features blacktype performers such as Coup De Folie and her offspring Exit To Nowhere, Coup De Genie, Machiavellian, etc.

Newtownabbey-based agency Kevin Ross Bloodstock has seen some of its purchases visit the winner’s enclosure recently both in Ireland and Britain.

Among them was the five-year-old King’s Theatre mare Sister Sibyl who scored on her first appearance over hurdles at Towcester last Thursday week. Having just her third career start, the Hughie Morrison-trained bay won a bumper first time out at the same track last December.

At Gowran last Saturday, the seven-year-old Halling gelding Zabana, who was having his second start of the season, landed the two and a half mile conditions chase in the colours of Chris Jones. Trained by Andy Lynch, Zabana has now won seven times for his present connections since purchased by KRB for €31,000 out of the Ken Condon yard.

The agency bought two bumper winners in the period under review, both four-year-olds owned by Paul and Clare Rooney.

The Milan gelding If The Cap Fits was sent out by Harry Fry to score on his debut at Plumpton on Monday while, making his second appearance, the Getaway gelding Getaway Whiskey won at Catterick on Wednesday for the Dan Skelton yard.
