MARALIN trainer Lee Smyth provided Martin Harley with the first leg of a treble at Wolverhampton on Monday when Ty Rock Brandy justified favouritism in the opening five-furlong handicap.

This was a second career success for the three-year-old Dandy Man filly who is owned in partnership by Tam Heatrick, in whose colours she runs, and Tandragee’s Davy Laverty who bred the bay out of the Royal Applause mare Britain’s Pride.

Donegal-born Harley sandwiched his trip to Wolverhampton between visits to the Middle East where, last Saturday, he rode a winner at Doha while, on Thursday just past, he had two rides at Meydan.

His victory in Qatar came on the David O’Meara-trained Intisaab who, in landing the six-furlong Dukhan Sprint (a local Group 3 event) by a head, picked up prize money of £105,555.56 (the race was worth US$250,000).

Pat Cosgrave’s good run in the United Arab Emirates continued last Friday when he won a listed five-furlong race on dirt at Jebel Ali with the Helal Al Alawi-trained Shillong, a five-year-old son of Dubawi.

Also on the flat, the Colin Kennedy-bred Danzan followed up his 1/8 success at Chelmsford at the end of January with a 1/7 victory over the same six-furlong track last Thursday while, the following evening, Paddy Mathers rode his seventh winner of the year when the Derek Shaw-trained Naralsaif won the extended mile handicap for fillies at Wolverhampton.
