Foy brothers enjoy Windsor success

TWO of the nine winners at Windsor on Sunday afternoon were bred near Downpatrick by the Foy brothers, Charlie and Tom.

The Tom Dascombe-trained Arcanada was the first of the pair to strike when landing the six-furlong handicap by a neck in the hands of Poppy Fielding. The apprentice, who is attached to the Dascombe yard, was recording just her second career success, while it was a 10th victory, and his sixth on grass, for Arcanada who last visited the winner’s enclosure roughly 12 months previously.

Bred by Charlie Foy, the seven-year-old Arcano gelding is the fourth of six foals (five colts) out of the six-time winner, and Group 3-placed Pivotal mare Bond Deal.

Just over an hour later, the Tom Foy-bred Pogo recorded a five-and-a-half-length success in the Listed Midsummer Stakes over a mile. The four-year-old Zebedee colt, who is trained by Charlie Hills and was ridden by Kieran Shoemark, had been placed on two previous outings during June, finishing third under the same jockey in the Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) at Royal Ascot.

Sunday’s win was a fourth for Pogo, the sixth of eight recorded foals out of the Diktat mare Cute who was placed twice at two. She is dam also of the 2014 Sir Prancealot gelding Birds Of Prey who has won three times on the flat and three times under National Hunt rules. Cute is a half-sister to the multiple-winning Kyllachy brothers, Arabian Gleam and Kimberella.

The Max Irvine-bred Magical Effect notched up his fifth career win on Monday at Thirsk where the Ruth Carr-trained New Approach gelding landed the seven-furlong handicap in the hands of Jamie Gormley. The eight-year-old chesnut, who is the first of five recorded foals out of the winning Orientate mare Purple Glow, is a half-brother to two other winners, the elder being the 2015 mare Main Desire who won a maiden and two listed races from just four starts.

Wing Power, bred by Dean Harron in partnership with Edridge Ltd, got off the mark on the fifth time of asking, and his first since being gelded, in the extended 12-furlong handicap at ParisLongchamp last Thursday week. The Power three-year-old is the last of five recorded foals out of the Hawk Wing mare Wing Diva, a sister of seven winners out of the dual listed winner Sasimoto and from the family of Lady Capulet, El Prado, etc.
