ANOTHER set of well-known northern colours carried to victory during the past week or so were those of Tilly Conway whose Dixie Lee initiated a double at Down Royal last Friday for trainer Dermot ‘Red’ McLoughlin.

The six-year-old Holy Roman Emperor bay, who won the two-mile Allied Bakeries Mares Maiden Hurdle by two lengths under Mark Enright on her first start over jumps, was bred by the owner’s husband, Pat.

The winner of bumpers at Down Royal and Limerick in successive outings in March and May 2016, Dixie Lee is the third of six recorded foals out of the British-bred Vettori mare Ellazaria, a winner over hurdles at Auteuil as a three-year-old.

At Bellewstown the previous evening, the Rose Boyd-owned Mystic Theatre justified her odds of 2/9 when landing the two-mile, half a furlong mares’ hurdle by 16 lengths.

The impressive winner is trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Ruby Walsh, the six-year-old King’s Theatre mare was bred by Peter and Maria Byrne out of the Alderbrook mare Mystic Cherry.

She was purchased by the McBratneys’ Templeburn Stud as a three-year-old at the 2014 Land Rover Sale in Goffs.

Mystic Theatre had three runs in point-to-points for Colin McBratney last season.

She won her maiden under Mark O’Hare and Loughanmore in late March and then taking a winners of three in the hands of Noel McParlan at Largy the following month.

She looks another mare to keep note of from the Mullins yard for the jump season ahead.
