THE annual Tattersalls Ireland/Connolly’s Red Mills thoroughbred broodmare championship takes place next Saturday at the Adamstown Show in Co Wexford.

The championship is open to thoroughbred mares, stinted or with foal at foot, who are entered or eligible for entry in Weatherbys Stud Book. The championship is confined to 40 entries (who will be accepted on a first-come basis) and each exhibitor is allowed enter just two mares.

In addition to nominations to the stallions listed below, there is a cash prize-fund of €1,500, of which the champion will receive €300, with prizes down to 10th place; feed vouchers will be offered as consolation prizes. There are also colt and filly classes for the foals of entered mares with the winners receiving free entry to Tattersalls Ireland’s November National Hunt Sale.

These are the stallions to whom nominations are on offer: Aiken (Anngrove Stud), Alkaadhem or Snow Sky (Ballycurragh), Centurion (Killack), Court Cave (Boardsmill), Golden Tornado or Urban Poet (Gurteen), Hillstar (Garryrichard), Jet Away or Ol’ Man River (Arctic Tack Stud), Lucky Speed (Sunnyhill), Masterofthehouse (Anshoon), Quest For Peace (Knockmullen House), Rule Of Law (Kedrah House), Sandmason (Lacken), Sans Frontieres (The Beeches), Sea Moon (Burgage), Watar or Life Force (Moortown) and Youmzain (Rathbarry).

Each exhibitor in order of placing will choose their preferred nomination and mares must be presented for covering in the 2019 breeding season.
