1.20 Adare Beginners Chase 2m 2f

A hopeful vote goes to Chasing Abbey who makes his debut over fences. This gelding hasn’t won for some time but he has been running quite creditably lately and his recent runs behind Doldido and Fest Deiz suggest that he should be more than competitive in a race restricted to horses rated 116 or less over hurdles.

He could have most to fear from Eagle Moon. The latter holds a rating of 111 and ran a respectable sixth to Downthecellar in a handicap chase at Tramore last Sunday, while his fourth to Burlesque Queen at Kilbeggan a couple of months ago represents a solid effort.

SELECTION: CHASING ABBEY

Next best: Downthecellar

Gin On Lime should be hard to beat. She was a very impressive winner at Killarney a couple of months ago and then followed up at Wexford in June when she beat Star Max by eight lengths. The latter looks the most likely danger to Gin On Lime and is slightly better off at the weights than he was at Wexford but he looks to have his work cut out to reverse that form.

SELECTION: GIN ON LIME

Next best: Star Max

The 128-rated Whatsnotoknow can make a winning start to his season. He finished down the field in a handicap chase at Fairyhouse over Easter but he previously finished second in a Grade 3 at Thurles and his other form includes a second to the subsequent Grade 1 scorer Franco De Port at Thurles over the winter.

The useful hurdler Turnpike Trip held every chance when falling three out in a Wexford beginners’ chase last week and his first two runs over fences have been sufficiently encouraging to suggest he can play a part in the finish of this race. The lightly raced former French-based four-year-old Alice Avril is also interesting as she is in receipt of a significant weight allowance.

SELECTION: WHATSNOTOKNOW

Broder might be able to add to his three wins over hurdles. His last run at Clonmel was an encouraging one and saw him beaten just under four lengths into third by Ingleby Mackenzie. The longer trip will not be a problem and he may not need to improve all that much on his recent efforts.

Allardyce appeals as a likely contender as he returns to the fray two months after running third to Marshalled in a handicap chase at Killarney.

SELECTION: BRODER

Next best: Allardyce

3.40 Croom Mares Beginners Chase 2m 6f 50yds

This could fall to Global Equity who is making her debut over fences. She was second in a listed hurdle at the Punchestown Festival on her last start having previously won a maiden at this track, while her form last season also includes a tremendous second to Heaven Help Us in a top-class mares’ handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival.

She should make a useful recruit to chasing and can account for Reine Fee who would have run respectably behind Gin On Lime last time having previously chased home Felicidad in a mares’ chase at Kilbeggan.

SELECTION: GLOBAL EQUITY

Next best: Reine Fee

4.15 Newcastlewest Handicap Chase 2m 6f 50yds

Lord Lariat can make up for his early fall in the Connacht National at Roscommon last month. Admittedly he is 17lbs higher than when he was last successful over fences, but he remains open to further success in this sphere and his second to Uisce Beatha at Fairyhouse at Easter is a strong piece of form in the context of this race.

Centurion Steel lacks the experience of his opponents but there was plenty to like about his successful debut over fences at Tramore last month and he can certainly progress further over fences.

SELECTION: LORD LARIAT

Next best: Centurion Steel

4.50 Templeglantine Handicap Chase (0-102) (Div I) 2m 6f 50yds

He has gone up a stone in the weights for two recent victories but Black Samurai could make it three wins in succession. He won over a slightly shorter trip at this track in May and then followed up at Wexford early last month when he defeated Emir De Rots who has since won over hurdles.

He should be able to see off Hell On Earth who has posted a couple of respectable efforts over a similar trip at Downpatrick this season.

SELECTION: BLACK SAMURAI

Next best: Hell On Earth

5.25 Templeglantine Handicap Chase (0-102) (Div I) 2m 6f 50yds

Stormy Master won a handicap chase over an extended two miles and three furlongs at this track a couple of months ago. He was upped to three miles over hurdles last time when finishing a respectable third to Nymphall and comes here in better form than a number of his rivals, so he looks a solid option.

His biggest danger could come from Wake Up Early who ran well over three miles at Wexford last time and won over a similar trip to this at Galway in the autumn.

SELECTION: STORMY MASTER

Next best: Wake Up Early
