2:00 Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Stakes (Group 3) 7f

No Speak Alexander sets a stealthy standard based on an excellent effort to finish a close fourth to Fev Rover in a Deauville Group 2 on her previous run. Before that she was a very easy winner on heavy ground at Roscommon from subsequent winner Divinely.

The rivals she faces here are unexposed but inexperienced compared to her, many having just their second starts out of maiden company, while this is her fourth so she can make that experience and her proven class tell.

Joseph O’Brien’s Earth Strike did well to beat a couple of more experienced stablemates on her debut over this course and distance and should be on the scene again if she improves from her second start. Monday shouldn’t be discounted also. She opposes New Emerald Bay again after finishing fourth to that filly at Punchestown but she ought to improve from that debut effort now.

Mirann makes a lot of appeal here for Johnny Murtagh. A comfortable winner on his Irish debut off a mark of 86, he ran an eyecatching race when second to Lynwood Gold in the Ebor Trial at the Curragh in July. He met a little traffic on his run through there, and having raced keenly early, there was a lot to like about the way he came home. Murtagh said the reason he dropped back in trip next time at Dundalk (to just over 10 furlongs) was to get him to settle and the way he came home from near last to finish third, never nearer at the line, was very taking.

Back at this trip, there seems a fair chance he can produce a career best type performance and he could be hard to stop.

That said, naturally there are plenty in here who catch the eye. Persia is making his seasonal debut for Aidan O’Brien and could be anything off a mark of 100. However the other Murtagh runner Springbank bolted up in first-time blinkers at Gowran last time, very much giving the impression he was a fast progressing horse.

He is 11lbs higher now but will be a threat. At probably a much bigger price, keep an eye Powerful Ted, who didn’t run too badly off difficult weight terms at Galway and has scope to improve off a mark of 88 on just his fourth flat start.

Cadillac’s failure to win the Futurity Stakes was disappointing immediately after the race, possibly because he was odds-on, but with the dust settled, it was still a good run from the Lope De Vega colt. It took him a while to pick up for Shane Foley, and he had to be switched to the far rail to get a run but once he did respond, he made ground quickly.

Not as quickly as the winner Mac Swiney, who opposes again today, but it was only Cadillac’s second ever run and it was the fourth for Jim Bolger’s colt. Back at Leopardstown, where he was seriously impressive on his debut, Cadillac can improve again, with the extra furlong also likely to help given how his race panned out last time.

There is any amount of could-be-anything maiden winners who each pose a significant threat, most notably course winners Fernando Vichi and Ides Of August.

The latter, an American bred colt by More Than Ready, needed every yard of the seven-furlong trip he won over on his debut, when he beat a subsequent winner in Southern Cape. He has been given plenty of time since that run (June 21st) and could well emerge as a significant danger.

Boomerang Mile (Group 2) 1m

British-trained horses have won five of the only seven renewals of this mile contest and they have the two top rated horses in the race again in Century Dream and Safe Voyage. While both would probably prefer a softer surface, they come here in the form of their of their careers.

The soft ground comment probably applies more to Century Dream but in any case, Safe Voyage is the play. John Quinn’s seven-year-old has done most of his racing over seven furlongs and it was over that trip that he was much too good for the Group 1-standard mare One Master in the City of York Stakes last time.

That said, he had the stamina to finish third in the one-mile Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on heavy ground at Ascot last season. Fast ground won’t hinder him, he broke the seven-furlong track record at Epsom earlier this season, and this thoroughly likeable horse can take his career earnings past the half-million mark in sterling with another win today.

Sinawann might be able to do best of the home team. His two best performances have come over this course and distance and this will be just his seventh career start so he has the scope to improve further.

This rates a very strong Group 3 with Buckhurst and Patrick Sarsfield setting a solid standard, however they could struggle to contain Irish Derby runner-up Tiger Moth. He had a couple of fancier options this weekend but Aidan O’Brien is keen to have him back at a mile and a half and good ground, which is the likely surface today.

His run to finish second in the Irish Derby was huge because he finished powerfully on what was just his third ever start and nearly caught stablemate Santiago.

Previously to that he won a good maiden at this course and freshened up since the Curragh, everything looks in place for a big run.

The progressive Patrick Sarsfield gets the second vote. He has gone from strength to strength this season and finished third in the Group 1 Grosser Dallmay-Preis in Munich last time. He has good course form and if he acts, or possibly improves, for this step up in trip, he’ll be a tough nut to crack.

Music To My Ears makes plenty of appeal for Joseph O’Brien and Wayne Lordan. A winner over a mile at the Curragh on her penultimate run, she only just failed to defy a 6lb higher mark against Sonaiyla in a more valuable fillies’ handicap over this distance last time.

She was slow out of the stalls there which meant she was last of the 16-runner field until after three-furlong marker. Her progress from here was very impressive, finishing fastest of all down the outside, and she was probably the moral winner on the day.

She was given 3lbs for that run but it was just her sixth start and she should improve again coming off a likely fast pace which will suit.

Real Appeal and Bopedro catch the eye for Jessica Harrington, the latter having finished fifth in this race last season, but the British horses usually have a say in this race and Another Batt could prove a threat for David Barron.

He lost his way for Richard Hughes last season but took advantage of his mark falling to 93 when needing every yard of the six-furlong trip he won over at Thirsk on his seasonal debut. He was given 5lbs for that effort but has the excellent Gavin Ryan claiming 3lbs of that and the extra furlong should help him also.
