WE lost on the first night when Harasava’s win in the 12-furlong handicap was the key result. After he battled back to win I thought it was going to be one of those weeks but things turned around for us on Tuesday.

It started badly again - Long Dog cost us a grand in the first race. Empresario (12/1) was a good result in the next. Hash Brown was heavily punted and we only saw fivers and tenners for the winner.

We knew we were in for a good night when we got both the Weld and O’Brien two-year-olds beaten in the fillies’ maiden. Now Or Never was a great result.

Hint Of A Tint was a small winner for us too in the big race of the evening. She was a hidden horse who hadn’t raced this year.

The runner-up Baraweez would have won us even more as I had a tip for him and kept him on our side.

It’s often the case that the maidens at Galway are the biggest betting races and that’s what happened in the next. There were fortunes for the Weld horse Valac (returned 1/1) and the J.P. McManus-owned Against The Breeze was backed from 16/1 to 9/2, though I managed to avoid all the fancy prices on that one. Let’s just say Ibergman (8/1) was a very good result.

The handicap won by Beau Satchel (10/1) was a messy race for us but we won a couple of hundred euro and we broke even in the last (won by Benkei, 9/2).

Turnover more or less was the same as last year - I was surprised to see the official figures reporting an increase of €100,000 on the night.
