THE final meeting of the 2017 North-West Region season saw Dylan Browne-McMonagle clinch his Regional Jockey’s Championship with a double at Killygordan last Sunday.

The 14-year-old Letterkenny rider opened his account in the 14.2hh race as Five Stone Of Lead romped to victory over his solitary rival, the Sam Ewing-ridden Don’t Mind Me.

Dylan then took the two-mile race on another Browne charge, Let’s Go Now, on whom he sat at the back of the field early before threading his way through to hit the front two furlongs out, stretching clear under a hands and heel ride.

With only two meetings left in the 2017 season, both in Mikey Sheehy’s Southern Region base, Dylan looks set to take the runner-up spot in this year’s Irish Field National Rider’s Championship behind Mikey.

The non-winners race probably wrapped it up for Mikey as Crafty Boy lasted home from Dylan’s Dodge The Bullet who stayed on strongly but never looked likely to reel in the winner.

Racing opened with a 12-furlong race and Joey Dunne made all here to win for Ryan Gormley on Donegal Dan, coming home six lengths clear.

Sam Ewing has had a year to remember with his Dingle Derby win the clear highlight. Sam recorded his 18th win of the season as he won the 15hh race on Dylan’s Pride. Sam sat second until two furlongs out and once he hit the front, the winner showed great courage to tough it out under a strong drive.

Shane Crosse made the journey from his Tipperary base worthwhile as he took the finale, the mile horse race on Osaka.

Shane stalked the Sam Ewing-ridden Aideen’s Dream until laying down his challenge two furlongs out where both horses went head to head.

Osaka was tough for Shane and eventually got the better of his rival to win by a little more than a neck.

Earlier in the day there was a local pony race where Erin Sheridan on Bailey came out on top from her sister Niamh on Moonlight.
