WEST Cork has long been a hot-bed of harness racing, in fact several of the region’s meetings have been in existence for over 100 years.

The local club is the ITHRF (Irish Harness Racing Federation) and the body held its annual awards night in the Drimoleague Inn on Saturday, November 18th.

The awards winners were a nice mix of the young and the old.

Angela Hurley and the similarly hard working Con O’Sullivan received awards for special contribution.

Horse of the Year went to the English import Cruise Howard. Tadhg Murphy was once again the leading trainer in the area.

Trotting enthusiasts in West Cork get to enjoy the full-on spectacle of recognised road racing through the winter. The first meeting is traditionally at Drimoleague on Stephens Day.
