ANNAGHMORE

THE meeting at Annaghmore last Saturday threw up three unexpected results and two which went the way of favourites.

The McCulloughs of Carrowdore on the picturesque Ards Peninsula supply a steady stream of runners at the Armagh venue.

Therefore, it was nice to see Keith McCullough score his first ever double as owner, trainer and driver with Blackfield Judy and Credit Crunch. The latter lowered the colours of the well-bred Night Skater.

The third surprise was a win for Rol d’Avignere, which came in for some tongue-in-cheek criticism in this column last week as being a difficult drive.

There’s nothing like horses to make a fool out of you. Sure enough the big-boned nine-year-old did not out a foot wrong under Billy Roche. Great stuff that humble pie.

HACKED UP

Two ‘jollies’ hacked up at the meeting. In the C to F pace Newtown Rock came from last to first in a matter of strides. The entire son of Rock n Roll Hanover always looks like he is hardly moving. Easy going gait or not, I am sure he came the last half in under one minute.

The closer was little more than a piece of fast work for Kick Ass Katie and JR, 1.57.5 being a lifetime best. A return of 1/2 steady was the business.
