IRISH-born Joe Tuite sent out his first winner in his homeland as Four White Socks made a winning debut for the Lambourn-based trainer to shock the home team in the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes.

On her first start since moving from Harry Fry, this four-year-old daughter of Lope De Vega didn’t go ignored in the betting but was still returned at 14/1 to improve on her fifth in the Munster Oaks back in June. The prevailing soft ground looked ideal for Declan McDonogh’s mount and she finished out this extended nine-furlong event in style when coming over the stand’s side rail to make her effort.

Four White Socks, who is owned by Rebecca Hillen and was bought by her husband Stephen for 50,000gns last December, swept by the favourite Who’s Steph early in the last furlong. She then stayed on powerfully to the line to hand out a three-and-a-half-length beating to the 50/1 shot Snapraeceps, with the placings completed by Tipitena. In victory Four White Socks became the third English-trained filly to win this race since it was first run as a stakes race in 2000, while she was just a fifth runner in Ireland for her trainer.

The various horses in training sales have been a happy hunting ground for Adrian McGuinness over the last year and Bowerman, a 52,000gns recruit from the Tattersalls July Sale, became the latest to strike for the trainer in the Listen To Beat Race over a mile. The 98-rated five-year-old showed a good attitude for Ronan Whelan when it mattered most as he got the better of the resilient front-running outsider Ideal Pal deep inside the distance to score by half a length.

Bowerman (7/2) is owned by the trainer’s stalwart supporters, the Total Recall Racing Club, and could now have his attentions switched to Dundalk.

Ben Coen was hit with a six-day whip ban after partnering Ideal Pal into second.
