2.05 Jack Duggan Memorial 3YO Hurdle 2m

Of those with hurdling experience, Theatre Of War sets the standard after solid runs in defeat at Down Royal and Listowel. However, he could prove vulnerable here to a hurdling newcomer, the Joe Schmidt-owned Cosmic Horizon has a 91 rating on the flat compared to Theatre Of War’s 75.

Joseph O’Brien excels with his juvenile hurdlers, so Cosmic Horizon gets the vote. Gordon Elliott’s Nobel Joshua wasn’t as good as those pair on the flat but market confidence on his hurdling bow could prove significant.

SELECTION: COSMIC HORIZON

Alice Johnston chased home a progressive type in Happy Jacky at Clonmel last month, finishing nicely clear of the remainder, and Padraig Roche’s mare can get her turn here. Lucky Phil, a strong traveller but relatively weak finisher, holds major claims on her best recent form but remains opposable, while Important Message comes into the reckoning after a good fourth in a more competitive Navan handicap last weekend.

SELECTION: ALICE JOHNSTON

Dual bumper winner Rocket Lad came a cropper at the final flight on his hurdling debut at Killarney when disputing the lead. At worst, he would have finished a clear second and he can atone here. The well-bred but reportedly tricky to train Drury came home a decisive winner of a Cork bumper and demands respect now sent hurdling, as does Gordon Elliott’s dual bumper winner Run Wild Fred.

SELECTION: ROCKET LAD

3.50 Kilkenny Racing Festival Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) 3m

A good pot on offer and an understandably very competitive field. Line Out wore down Sky Marshal late on over 2m4f at Listowel and there could be to come here from John Kiely’s charge over this longer trip. Listowel form could prove key here with the 3m handicap won by Bothar Dubh, ahead of Sky Marshal, Goodnightngodbless and Suinda likely very significant. The long absent Elwood is only a five-year-old and his Cork second back in March reads well, he runs well fresh too.

SELECTION: LINE OUT

Next best: Bothar Dubh

4.25 PWC Champion Chase (Grade 2) 2m4f

A very competitive renewal with only 9lbs separating the field on official ratings. Peregrine Run heads the ratings, having been well placed by Peter Fahey to complete a five-timer before finishing an honourable fourth in the Galway Plate.

This trip appears his optimum and he is narrowly preferred to the Gordon Elliott-trained pair Shattered Love and The Storyteller, both of whom also excel at around this trip. The likes of Snow Falcon and Jury Duty ideally want further, while the enigmatic Yorkhill has questions to answer after his Kerry National effort.

SELECTION: PEREGRINE RUN

Next best: The Storyteller

5.00 Paulstown Handicap Chase 3m1f

A fine display of jumping saw Freewheelin Dylan see off Kilkishen comprehensively over this trip at Kilbeggan and he is fancied to confirm that form here, providing the ground doesn’t worsen too much.

Graineyhill has some solid recent form at Perth but more is likely required here, so more potent threat could come from Static Jack, still relatively unexposed over fences and on a potentially nice mark. At the foot of the handicap, Home Place doesn’t always appear the most straightforward but he could go well here at a decent price.

SELECTION: FREEWHEELIN DYLAN

Next best: Static Jack

5.35 Join Gowran Racing Club Beginners Chase 2m2f

A likely strong favourite here in Dallas Des Pictons, a 144-rated hurdler at the end of last season in which he finished second in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap. Granted a clear round, he should have too much here for some much lower-rated rivals, the pick of whom appears to be Advantage Point, a Naas maiden winner but safely held in novice company there when last seen in March.

SELECTION: DALLAS DES PICTONS

Next best: Advantage Point
