ANOTHER winner with Northern connections at Tramore on New Year’s Day was Just Get Cracking who landed the two-mile hurdle on his first outing in handicap company.
Ridden by Paul Townend and the opening leg of a double for Bandon trainer James Dullea, the Winged Love five-year-old was bred by J.P. King.
The bay gelding is the fourth of seven recorded produce out of the Opening Verse mare Eastender a half-sister to the 10-time winner Westender, runner-up in the 2003 Champion Hurdle, and seven other winners.
A good spell for Comber breeder Elizabeth Hamilton continued at Fairyhouse on the first day of the year when Jetstream Jack, trained by Gordon Elliott for English owner Diana Whateley and ridden by Nina Carberry, landed the bumper on his first racecourse appearance.
The Beneficial five-year-old, winner of his maiden at Affane in November for the Eoin Doyle yard, is the second of five produce out of the Presenting mare Westgrove Berry, the winner of a bumper and two hurdle races.
The previous day, Carberry claimed the bumper at Punchestown on another Beneficial-sired winner, the 2010 mare Bonny Kate, trained by Noel Meade for Belfast owner Patricia Hunt who had four horses placed at Leopardstown over Christmas.
