12:35 GOBUS.IE MARES MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

This looks a good mares’ maiden hurdle and we could possible see a Cheltenham contender emerge, with the Mares’ Novice Hurdle a target to aim at. Getaway Katie Mai, the Aintree Grade 2 mares’ bumper winner has been acquired by J.P. McManus and is an exciting recruit to hurdles. However, it may be that she needs further, given it took her a long time to get to the front in Liverpool and so Gordon Elliott’s Tintangle could be the one. The Gigginstown mare holds a similarly promising profile having achieved a listed bumper win last term.

SELECTION: TINTANGLE

1:05 W.B. GAVIN & CO IRISH EBF BEGINNERS CHASE 2M 6½F

All eyes on Blow By Blow who took a while to really get going over hurdles last season but ended the term with a very respectable mark of 150, having won the Martin Pipe impressively at Cheltenham. He has every chance of going to a similar level or higher over fences and it will be no surprise if he makes a winning debut tomorrow.

Dorans River can give him most to do. Steve Mahon’s gelding was about to run a really encouraging debut before coming down at the second last at Limerick. He probably would have been second to Boot Camp if he stayed up and he can do better now on his second run over fences.

1:40 MARLIN HOTELS HANDICAP CHASE 2M 6½F

This looks like a very nice opportunity for Robert Tyner’s Dont Kick Nor Bite with many of his rivals here very much out of form. The seven-year-old mare has hit the frame on each of her last five starts, winning at Roscommon on her penultimate run before handling a 9lb rise to finish a good second at Punchestown on her latest start. Her good sequence of form started with a second to Lizzies Champ over hurdles at this course and she can go one better over fences on her return to Ballybrit.

Of the remainder, Tous Est Permis looked the most interesting. He has some useful form over fences last season, has been dropped a little by the handicapper and makes his first start for Noel Meade tomorrow.

2:15 BALLYMORE HANDICAP CHASE 2M 6½F

Phillip Rothwell’s Shanklys Dawn arrives here on a hat-trick but she may be outdone by the horse she narrowly beat at Sligo last time – Gunfire Reef. Mags Mullins’s gelding has a compartively unexposed profile compared to Shanklys Dawn and also has a 4lb weight swing with that runner. He should prove a tough nut to crack if progressing from that Sligo win.

Se Mo Laoch is another chaser with potential to improve, coming here for his sixth run over fences, and off the back of a hurdles win at Kilbeggan last time out.

SELECTION: GUNFIRE REEF

2:50 ANNESLEY WILLIAMS RATED NOVICE HURDLE 2M 4½F

Willie Mullins runs three here, all already winners over hurdles, so the fact Ruby Walsh rides Karl Der Grosse is a fair pointer. That said, Joseph O’Brien’s Vinnie The Hoodie probably achieved a fair bit more on his win at Gowran Park than the Mullins runner did at Tramore and he gets the vote.

O’Brien’s other runner Petit Tartare is also respected with a rating of 125. Poly Rock and Dorrells Pierji make up the Mullins trio, the latter was a little disappointing last time and has to give away weight, while the former is having his first run in 222 days.

SELECTION: VINNIE THE HOODIE

3:25 GLENMAN CORPORATION HANDICAP HURDLE 2M 6F

This is a wide open affair and a tentative vote goes to Crosshue Boy.

The eight-year-old gelding progressed well over fences last season for Sean Doyle, winning a valuable handicap chase at Ayr on his last start. He returns to hurdles off a mark of 120, 23lbs lower than his chase rating, and although this could be something of a warm up run before going back over fences, he can be very competitive.

Suinda is interesting as an exposed Willie Mullins-trained runner off a mark of 109 and with Ruby booked.

Another to note is Auvergnat, who ran well when at this track when last seen over hurdles. He also put up a really nice run over fences when last seen, chasing home Icantsay at Killarney.

4:00 THE MIRIAM HAND “PLAY IN PINK FUNDRAISER” HURDLE 3M

This looks like it could be another cakewalk for Wicklow Brave, the 157-rated hurdler who looks vastly superior to his five rivals here. He failed to win when favourite for the Grade 3 contest won by Bedrock at Tipperary but he faces nothing of the same calibre in this and though this is his first start at three miles, he is a stayer on the flat so should have no problems.

Val De Ferbet is better known as a chaser on his day but he wasn’t a bad hurdler prior to that and he could give the favourite the most to do, with Jaime Sommers next best.

4:35 GALWAY GOLF CLUB RESTAURANT 4-Y-O FILLIES (PRO/AM) INH FLAT RACES 2M

Not much to go on for this fillies’ bumper but both Cotton End and Silk And Sand showed enough promise first time up to suggest they’d be up to winning a contest like this.

A narrow vote goes to the former-mentioned, who is trained by Joseph O’Brien, and got close to two more experienced fillies – Sassy But Classy and Earth Sister – at Listowel.

Gordon Elliott’s Miss Aloud and Noel Meade’s The Caddy Rose have run consistently well recently and should be thereabouts again.
