1:20 Return Of The Jumps Mares Beginners Chase 2m

Jeremys Flame fell early in this race last season but she can make amends today. Jumping was an issue for her last term but when she got it together she ran an excellent race behidn subsequent Cheltenham scorer Mount Ida at Cork. She’s bound to have been well schooled since.

Riviere D’Etel is a clear danger. She gets a handy allowance as a four-year-old and ran to a very good standard when sixth in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham.

SELECTION: JEREMYS FLAME

Port Stanley can put his good experience to use. He ran well at this course twice last season, finishing second to a useful pair of J.P. McManus-owned horses, Aramax and Front View, and though he failed to win last term, he ran some excellent races elsewhere in defeat. He’s already been seen this season, falling when just getting into contention at Listowel and with the cobwebs blown off now, he could be tough to beat.

Minella Escape is probably the most interesting of the chasing debutants. He won a Belclare point and cost €100,000 at the sales, going on to show useful form over hurdles last season and it may be now over fences that he shines.

Favori Logique was unlucky not to make it four wins in a row when he came down at the last at Sligo but he can regain the winning thread today. Ross O’Sullivan’s six-year-old has been put up 10lbs for that Sligo run but he remains progressive and on a mark which is still 6lbs below his hurdles rating. He can win again.

Lord Lariat appeals as a potentially bigger-priced alternative. His best form came at this track last season and though he struggled early in the summer, he had a little break and ran okay on his comeback run over hurdles at Tipperary.

Trendy Lady has to reverse Listowel form with Kicking Princess, but she might well be aided by coming down two furlongs in trip. Henry de Bromhead’s mare travelled nicely into that race before failing to go with the top trio, led by the exciting Party Central. That was her first run over hurdles and she looks bound to improve now.

Kicking Princess shouldn’t be discounted for Eoin McCarthy who has been going well. The top two are also well respected, Glan and Jeremy’s Jewel, with the former mentioned doing well to finish third on her hurdles debut.

Roisins Ciara gets a tenative vote in this weak contest. She won her maiden hurdle at Wexford in June and though disappointing on her next run at Bellewstown, she may have been unsuited by the extra half mile. She didn’t get very far at Killarney last weekend but she was sent off 9/1 in a much more competitive heat there, which may indicate some optimism in her ability to score off her current mark.

Coolnacritta will be a threat if she can build on her form earlier in the year but Paddy Wickla could be more dangerous, considering she won as recently as last week at Clonmel. She got 5lbs for that win but should be competitive again.

Mark Fahey’s Inforapenny has put together two decent runs recently and can progress again. Fourth to Profound in a two-mile handicap hurdle at Navan, he ran well again at Clonmel over two and a half miles. Lightly raced, he should be suited by two miles on this stiff track.

He’sthewon catches the eye also. He ran well on his handicap hurdle debut for Gavin Cromwell last season and is now having his first run for Pat Martin. Any support in the market would be noteworthy.

4:50 Welcome Back To Fairyhouse Handicap Hurdle 2m

Back into handicap hurdle company, Donthavetime can win again. Jessica Harrington’s mare won her maiden hurdle at Sligo in August and nearly made a winning handicap hurdle debut when just failing to beat Son Of Hypnos by a half-length at Galway. She was then tried at listed level and didn’t disgrace herself at Gowran Park.

Peckham Springs looks her biggest danger. He has to overcome a long absence but won over this course and distance when last seen and could take advantage off a mark of 112.

SELECTION: DONTHAVETIME

This doesn’t look like the strongest heat and a chance is taken on Angelsworknovrtime for James Fahey. She ran well first time up when second at Tramore and though only fifth last time at Galway, she did well to keep on after running freely earlier in the race. This could well be a weaker contest and she’ll be thereabouts again, especially if she can settle better.

Ambitious Fellow possibly has the best bumper form on offer but has to give weight away all round so Free Nelson, who caught the eye of the stewards when finishing fast late on over hurdles at Listowel, gets the second vote.
