THE three group races on Saturday all went to raiders from Britain, which is no bad thing in the broad scheme of things.

The British element to the weekend is an important element and, while Charlie Hills and William Haggas and Clogherhead native Richard Fahey have been good supporters of Irish racing for years, group race success on Irish Guineas weekend is no harm in keeping Ireland high on their respective radars.

But it wasn’t just about the raiders or the household names. Kieran Cotter and Natalia Lupini and Joe Murphy had winners on Saturday, Garry Caldwell and Denis Hogan and Ado McGuinness and Tommy Shaw had winners on Sunday.

Paddy Twomey didn’t have a winner over the course of the weekend, but he sent out Decrypt to finish third in the Irish 2000 Guineas, and he sent out Foxtrot Liv to finish third in the Irish 1000 Guineas.
