Shark Bay is taken to build on his pleasing debut third over this course and distance three weeks ago. The son of Australia was a little slowly away and had to be pushed along to keep tabs with the field. His greeness continued to be a factor in the straight where it took him a while to get going but once the penny dropped he ran on well and was only beaten a short neck by Atomic Jones in a five-way finish. Aidan O’Brien’s colt should be able to improve significantly from the experience.

Barud has put two good runs together, the most recent his fourth to Point Lonsdale in a maiden that has worked out well. Of the newcomers, Lorenzo Lotto looks most interesting: a 150,000 guineas son of Caravaggio and half-sister to a good Moyglare filly Making Light.

This could be fought out by the two at the top of the weights, Threebagsfull and Admiral D, who filled the first two places of a Listowel maiden last month. It was Admiral D who came out on top that time and Michael O’Callaghan’s colt can do so again today. The two have each run once more, Threebagsfull winning at Bellewstown and Admiral D running a fine race when 11th of 27 in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. It’s hard to decipher between the level of those two pieces of form but the end result is that Admiral D is 7lbs better off with Threebagsfull, and he comfortably had his measure in Listowel.

Of the remainder, Jarvis has shown gradual improvement in his three runs and receives plenty of weight now which should see him competitive.

SELECTION: ADMIRAL D

Beauty Inspire will be all the rage after his excellent debut win here last month but he takes a significant step up in class now against five winning and more experienced rivals. Of the quintet, Hadman could be the way in. He seems to be progressing with each start and the form of his two wins is working out very well – he had three subsequent winners directly behind him at Gowran Park and the horse that finished second to him at Naas earlier this month also won last weekend.

The other to mention is Daisy Peers who really caught the eye with the manner of her victory at Navan last week, travelling smoothly and picking up very well to win going away. She shouldn’t be discounted in receipt of 3lbs from the colts.

SELECTION: HADMAN

The brilliant story of Logo Hunter continues here as the son of Brazen Beau enters pattern company for the first time, bidding to make it five wins from seven runs for Michael Browne. The form of his Sole Power Sprint win has worked out really well with Romantic Proposal and Urban Beat in behind but he may have most to fear from his own age group, namely the two fillies Mooniesta and Measure Of Magic.

Indeed Measure Of Magic actually beat Logo Hunter in a listed event at Navan and reconvenes with him now arguably a better filly after a comfortable win at Cork and excellent third in the Commonwealth Cup.

Of the remainder, Romantic Proposal is respected but it’s questionable whether the drop down to five furlongs will suit given she has only raced once over that distance once and was well held by Logo Hunter. The exact same applies to Greenlands Stakes winner Gustavus Weston.

SELECTION: MEASURE OF MAGIC

Marbling can come good in this valuable handicap on her third start for Ger Lyons. A French recruit, she was heavily supported for her Irish debut in a seven-furlong fillies’ handicap at this track three weeks ago but met traffic before failing to see out her race behind Sindhia. In a way, she justified the belief in her with a very good run to finish fifth in the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse on Sunday. She finished in between two 100+ rated rivals that day and since this race was an early closer, she can’t be reassessed so gets to compete off her mark of 86 still. That makes her very interesting indeed, with the drop down in trip also a potential trigger for further improvement.

Gulliver is a rock-solid alternative. He ran second to Romantic Proposal in this race last season off a 4lb higher mark and he comes back to this race of a very similar run in the Wokingham two years running. He is hitting form at the right time again and looks more than competitively handicapped now.

This looks a real penalty kick for Zoffanien. Denis Hogan’s four-year-old progressed admirably through the juvenile hurdle ranks last jumps season, finishing third in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in January to finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Champion Four Year Old Hurdle back at that course in May. He is now rated 142 over hurdles but competes off 83 now on the flat, in which he has winning form from the south west of France region. The booking of Jody Townend to take off 5lbs is a clear positive as well.

A lot of his rivals look out of form but Crassus would have a chance if he can recapture the level he previously showed on the flat. His previous run on the level was at Navan where he finished second to the very well treated All Class.

SELECTION: ZOFFANIEN

This could be a trappy enough affair but the most solid case is that for Ever Present. A useful bumper horse where he was fourth a listed contest won by Sir Gerhard, connections have pursued a flat campaign with him and he’s won both of his two starts, the latest a good effort to hold off The Names Jock and Shoshone Warrior at Leopardstown. A mark of 95 looks very fair considering the latter mentioned is rated 100, and he may be able to improve again.

Hector De Maris is a clear danger after a good run in a listed contest at Roscommon. He comes up to this two-mile trip for the first time which is a question but he could even improve for it. The consistent Dewcup should also run well again having been just denied by Dalton Highway over this course and distance three weeks ago in what was a deeper contest than this.
