MAURICE McCarthy is a regular on the charity race scene as he has taken part in almost 50 races here and in the UK. Remarkably, Maurice has raised well over £200,000 for various charities over the years through participation in such races and he is delighted to be finally riding in the 2019 Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series in aid of Irish Injured Jockeys.

The charity race specialist from Lancashire in the United Kingdom said “I love race riding and raising money for so many charities is fantastic. I hope that I will leave a legacy for many to follow by riding in the series and I hope I will help to make the event a massive success.”

Maurice recently rode in the opening leg of the charity race series at the Curragh. Speaking of riding in Ireland he said: “It was the most amazing experience, the Irish crowds are fantastic, friendly and really supportive. With a surname like McCarthy I feel like I will fit in perfectly in Ireland competing in this event. I am really looking forward to the remainder of the series and to win the outright trophy would be a dream come true.”

Maurice finished fifth of 13 runners who went to post at the Curragh for the first competition of the three race series. Interesting to note that the Gordon Elliott trained Skeaping was backed from 12/1 into 8/1 on the day, which suggests Maurice might be one to watch for the remainder of the challenge series.
