TRIONA Burbage is from Portarlington, Co. Laois where her family own the popular spot called Burbage’s Pub. Triona has been riding horses all her life, she first started with ponies at the age of four and has competed in lots of different disciplines from show jumping to eventing. Triona also hunts and is heavily involved in racing.

Passion for racing

Mark Fahey Racing has been her place of employment for five years now where she rides six or seven lots each morning and also travels racing when necessary. Triona’s passion for horse racing hasn’t stopped there as she owns a racehorse called Unlaoised, whom she is very proud of, and she is also a member of ‘The Seven Chasers’ syndicate of which she really enjoys being a part.

From a very early age, Triona wanted to be a jockey, riding racehorses at the top racecourses all over the country and the Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series in aid of Irish Injured Jockeys (IIJ) allows her to do just that. Realising her dream

Realizing her drream

The Curragh, Cork Racecourse Mallow and Leopardstown Racecourse are all part of the series and the dream realisation for this woman on a mission who said: “Since I started working at Mark Fahey Racing I have seen a whole range of injuries sustained by jockeys at the races. I have also witnessed the fantastic support that Irish Injured Jockeys offers to those most in need of support and I want to help IIJ with assisting those injured riders. The series also offers me the opportunity to fulfil my personal dream. It’s been an amazing journey so far. I am looking forward to the final leg of the series at Leoparstown and want to thank everyone who has supported my fundraising efforts along the way.”

Facing into the final weeks of preparation for the last leg of the Corinthian Challenge, Triona is in joint fourth position on the overall leaderboard on five points. Winning a race is worth 10 points and the leader is currently on 13 points, so Triona is certainly one to watch at Leopardstown on Saturday, October 26th.

The busloads of family, friends and fans will make the trip from Burbage’s Pub in Portarlington to cheer her on too!
